If your baby is born at Queen Alexandra Hospital, or is transferred to the NICU from another hospital, he/she will be transported in a transport incubator. This incubator is attached to a trolley with a portable ventilator, oxygen and air cylinders, monitors and intravenous pumps, to provide intensive care support and warmth during your baby's transfer.

On occasions babies requiring special care may need to be transferred to our sister unit in Chichester. The staff on the unit will of course discuss this with you prior to making the decision to transfer your baby.
Please remember that the wards/ units are all slightly different and will have different routines. However, we all strive to provide the best care possible for all patients and their families. The staff are always available to help and support you and provide the care you and your baby require.
