Neonatal Intensive Care - Preparing for Treatment

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust

Preparing for Treatment

Having your baby admitted to the NICU can be a stressful and frightening time for you and your family. It is often totally unexpected and you are quite unprepared for it. Being separated from your baby may make it difficult for you to feel close to them, especially when they are in incubators and connected to all the monitors. Feelings of anxiety are very common for most parents. You are not alone. The staff on the unit are aware of how you might be feeling and are all here to help you cope. As the baby's parents you are vital to their care and there are many things you can do to help your baby.
