Nuclear Medicine Physics
Overview
The Nuclear Medicine and Nuclear Medicine Physics services are based at Queen Alexandra hospital and provide a comprehensive range of services in imaging and non-imaging diagnostic tests and radionuclide therapy. Arrival of new technology and radiopharmaceuticals has paved the way for more advanced and dedicated technology, as such the department are equipped with the state of art imaging facilities; one SPECT/CT, 2 SPECT gamma cameras, 1 mCT/PET (Time of Flight), multimodality image processing, top of the range gamma and beta sample counters and range of radionuclide calibrators.
Nuclear Medicine Physics Service and Activities
- Support for the Nuclear Medicine imaging service
- Imaging and non-imaging diagnostic tests
- Radionuclide therapy including radiation protection issues
- Support for breast sentinel lymph node procedures
- Provision of scientific and technical support to an external Nuclear Medicine departments through contractual agreements
- Training of IPEM trainees in collaboration with Southampton University Hospitals Trust and provision of structural training to new NMP staff to achieve Clinical State registration.
- Research and Development and collaboration with industries
- The section has a strong research and teaching collaboration with the
University of Surrey
Nuclear Medicine Physics Staff
The Nuclear Medicine Physics section is supported by one Consultant Clinical Scientist, two more Clinical Scientists, two Medical Physicists, two Medical Technical Officers and number of visiting trainees, students.
