Employee of the Month Winners - July - December 2012

Catherine Lympany

Catherine Lympany - December 2012

Catherine is a very experienced nurse and has worked in Urology for 20 years. She became a nurse practitioner and when the department was relocated to the newQueenAlexandraHospital, she was charged with developing a service that would ease the pressure of emergency admissions on the ward.

The hugely successful Urology Rapid Access clinic was born and Catherine worked tirelessly to develop a fast, cost efficient service for Urology Emergency admissions that don’t need to be admitted or see a Doctor. This is turn reduces anxiety and fear for patients by being seen quickly. She also supports complex, long term Urology patients by giving them open access to advice and treatment by an experienced nurse with a familiar face.

Tracie Jarvis

Tracie Jarvis - November 2012

Endoscopy Nurse Assistant

Tracie has worked tirelessly for seventeen years on the Endoscopy Unit as an Endoscopy Nurse Assistant, but over and above that for the last two years, she has combined training as a Nurse Endoscopist with coordinating and managing all the preparations required for the visit of National Joint Advisory Group for Endoscopy.  This is a tremendous amount of work and she has put in hours and hours of extra work without due regard to overtime.  Her dedication to the unit is faultless and yet her consistent awareness of patients' needs is inspirational, always conscientious and willing to go the extra mile.  Tracie is very much a team player and valued, well respected member of the team.

Nominated by colleagues in the Endoscopy Unit.

Philippa Charlton

Nichola Perry

Philippa Charlton and Nichola Perry - October 2012

Senior Staff Nurse and Staff Nurse, Head and Neck Unit

A patient was admitted to G4 for surgery for cancer at the end of October.  Following this surgery he had drains in his neck which caused him some difficulties with significant pain.  At this point Staff Nurse Nichola Perry attended to him and recognised the problem and called Sister Philippa Charlton to assist.  He describes both of these nurses as having exceptional character and quality.  He describes both of them as caring, able to recognise a problem promptly and taking ownership of the situation until it is resolved.  They both inspire trust in the patients and their colleagues alike and maintain a calm and professional manner.  He describes them both as a credit to the hospital.
