The endocrine department offers a range of services to investigate, diagnose and treat patients with endocrine disorders. Their General Practitioner, or another hospital consultant, refers patients to the endocrine department.
- Patients will usually first receive an appointment for a consultation in a consultant’s endocrine clinic. Most clinics are held at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in addition there are clinics held at Gosport War Memorial and Petersfield Hospitals.
- Pituitary clinic: The multidisciplinary team who manages patients requiring pituitary surgery includes Dr Kar and Jean Munday who regularly meet with Dr Belli from the neurosurgery department at Southampton. The pituitary clinic is held on Friday afternoons (2pm - 5pm)
- Euthyroid Lump Service: This is a joint service provided by surgeons, Mr Constantinos Yiangou, Martin Wise and Endocrinologist Professor Mike Cummings along with Jean Munday. The service aims to see euthyroid lumps to determine the underlying cause and risk of malignancy as well as assess the implications of the goitre related to local pressure related symptoms such as dysphagia and breathlessness/stridor. This is a monthly clinic (the first Friday of the month; 9am - 12.30pm).
- Adrenal tumours: The multidisciplinary team who manages patients with adrenal tumours includes Dr Meeking. Regular meetings are held with radiologists and surgeons to discuss the investigation and management of patients. Clinics are held on Friday mornings (9am - 12.30pm) and afternoons (2pm - 5pm)
- Fertility clinic: Dr Cummings undertakes a joint fertility clinic with Mr Golland at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
- General Endocrine clinics: Patients with general endocrine disorders such as thyroid over or under activity are seen in these clinics. These clinics run on a regular basis from Monday to Friday and are overseen by all of the Consultants in the team.
