Diabetes & Endocrinology Team

Endocrine Nurse Specialist

Jean Munday
Jean Munday

Jean Munday joined the department in 1997 and has had various nursing roles in research, diabetes and endocrinology.

Since 2002 she has been the local Endocrine Nurse Specialist. She undertakes endocrine investigations and sees patients in nurse-led clinics. These investigations frequently include pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal tests.

Doctors within our department and other areas of the hospital can refer patients for endocrine testing. Once diagnosed if a patient needs to start an injectable treatment (e.g. Growth Hormone treatment) she sees them, undertakes any patient training required, initiates the first doses, and then monitors their response in a nurse-led clinic. She also liaises with practice nurses and trains them in the administration of specialist endocrine therapies.

Her specialised interest is thyroid disease and she runs a weekly clinic to monitor patients post radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism. She is also the clinical nurse specialist who is part of the multi disciplinary thyroid cancer team. She attends the weekly thyroid lump clinic where she sees patients independently and in conjunction with other members of the team like Dr Mike Cummings.

She has completed the Endocrine Nurse Certificate and is on the Nurses Committee of the British Endocrine Society.
