The Diabetes service in Queen Alexandra Hospital is broadly divided into two groups: inpatient and outpatient care.
The inpatient care involves a dedicated team of Consultants and Specialist Nurses who endevour to optimise diabetes care in patients admitted to the hospital.
The outpatient care involves specialist clinics such as diabetes pregnancy service, diabetes foot care and diabetes renal clinics. These are conducted by Consultants along with the specialist nurses.
Apart from the medical team, the specialist nursing team also hold clinics either on a one-to-one basis discussing diabetes management or as group sessions looking at education, conversion to insulin and new treatments such as GLP-1 agonists.
Educational programmes are also held on a regular basis within the diabetes centre.

Firefighters Stuart Vince and Phil Jackson will be running 11 marathons starting on Sunday 20 May 2012, from the main entrance of Queen Alexandra Hospital to Land's End, before rowing back along the south coast to Gunwharf Quays,Portsmouth - all within 20 days.
