My Appointment

How and When will I be invited ?

All women aged 50-70 years who are registered with a GP within our screening area are eligible for screening.

Some ladies aged 49 (who will be 50 in the year of screening) will be identified and invited for screening.

As the programme runs over a rolling three year plan some women may not receive their first invitation until they are 53.

This meets the requirements of the National Breast Screening Programme.

“Failsafe” screening is carried out every three months for those women who join the GP practice or enter the screening age after screening in that area has finished.

Women will then continue to be routinely invited every three years until age 70.  (After age 70 you can self refer if you wish to have mammograms from age 73 onwards).

Invitations are sent out as a letter about three weeks before the appointment date. An information leaflet will also be sent.
