Joint Services with the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department

The Audiology Department works closely with the ENT Department to ensure patients receive the optimum treatment for their hearing related difficulties.

The following are some of the reasons a hearing assessment in the Audiology Department will result in a referral to an Ear Consultant in the ENT department:

• The hearing  loss includes a problem with the ear canal
• The hearing loss includes a problem with the middle ear or eardrum
• Further investigations are required with regards Tinnitus symptoms
• Further investigations are required with regards Vertigo symptoms

Relatively simple blockages of the ear canal such as those caused by wax or foreign bodies will mean a referral to a Nurse Specialist in the ENT department. They will use micro-suction instruments in combination with a microscope to remove the blockage.
